Inside designer Sam Botero's New York home

Inside designer Sam Botero's New York home

The living room in designer Sam Botero's upper East Side home is an explosion of color.

There is a Botero waterfall cocktail table he designed for Boteroworld, a furniture collection launching this spring. Italian Deco 1930s armchairs, Fornasetti commode and Fornasetti Chinese-themed Lucite cocktail table, a Bauhaus lamp and Chiku table also for Boteroworld (inspired by Latin dance music) speak to the design diversity. Floor-to-ceiling panels of mirror occupy the recessed walls on both sides of a working fireplace. Von Sztankoczy, who lives and works with Botero, believes it "gives the room a little kick, an under-the-canopy feeling, a sheltered feeling, and it's fabulous with brown.

Drama is everywhere.

"It is sexy, warm and great to be in," says Botero of the wall colors. The reflection makes the room go on and on.

This Botero apartment isn't an ancient collection of curiosities; it is a vibrant, dashing, design sensation that attracts us and saves us from the tiresome sights usually expected when we open the door to normal apartments in buildings like this.
