Interiors: Simple summer makeovers for easy living

As I always mention, painting is easy and can remake a room in no time. Depending on your budget, slipcovers can be purchased custom-made or loosely fitting, already made. Store your regulars, and let summer-themed accessories do their job for a few months. In the kitchen or the dining area, you can place a clear glass bowl filled with lemons for a fresh and inviting look. But if even this is a bit much, here's another idea. Lemons are good because they keep longer, but if you and your family are fruit eaters, a bowl of fresh fruit in the kitchen will scream summertime. Of course, the easiest and least expensive way to make your house "summer inviting" is to change accessories. Dark upholstered furniture is inviting in the winter, but light-colored upholstery works nicely in the summer. Speaking of fresh .

The next step is replacing heavy draperies with sheers or simple blinds. Something as straightforward as changing throw pillows is quick and inexpensive. A slipcover makes the change speedily, and when summer is over, off come the slipcovers and the dark upholstery welcomes the fall and winter again. Other quick steps include a fresh cover or bedspread in the bedroom, maybe a few new lamps, and a fast reframing of family photos. Then open your windows, sit back and relax, and let the summer breezes flow in.
